Last updated 23 October 2026. Applies to Couchdesk for iPhone and iPad and to Couchdesk for Mac.
Couchdesk lets you control your own Mac from your iPhone or iPad over your local network. It is built so that your screen and what you type stay between your two devices. We have no accounts and no servers that receive your data.
Couchdesk is published by Quentin Vedrenne ("we"), who is responsible for this policy. Contact: contact@quentinvedrenne.com.
The app shows your Mac's screen and sends your touches, pointer movements, clicks, scrolls and keystrokes to your Mac. This happens only over a direct, encrypted connection to the Mac you paired. The app displays the picture and discards it; nothing is saved, and nothing is sent anywhere else. When you connect, the app sends your Mac this device's name (for example "Quentin's iPhone") and a random identifier, so your Mac can show what is connected.
Forget a Mac in Settings, or delete the app, to remove them.
Used only while you are scanning, to read the QR code your Mac shows. The camera image is processed on the device and never stored or sent.
Used only to find your Mac (Bonjour service _couchdesk._tcp) and connect to it.
Couchdesk Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple processes the payment; we never see your payment details. The app checks on the device whether you own Pro.
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob: a banner on the home screen and occasionally a full-screen ad after a session ends, never during one. To serve and measure ads, Google may collect your IP address (from which an approximate location can be derived), information about your device and the app, your interactions with ads, and diagnostics. The advertising identifier (IDFA) is shared with Google only if you allow it when iOS asks ("Allow apps to request to track"); if you decline, ads still appear but are less relevant.
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google's consent form (Google User Messaging Platform) asks for your choices before any ad is requested, and you can change them at any time from Settings → Privacy choices in the app.
Google's processing is governed by Google's own policies: Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. With Couchdesk Pro, the ads SDK is not started and no ad is requested.
We don't include any analytics or crash-reporting SDK. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in iOS settings, Apple may provide us with anonymous crash reports.
~/Library/Application Support/Couchdesk on your Mac: its own encryption certificate and key, and the list of paired devices (their name, identifier, and a hash of the access token issued to them).Choose "Forget paired devices" in Couchdesk for Mac, or delete the app and its folder above, to remove this data.
The data Couchdesk needs to work stays on your own devices, under your control, for as long as you keep the apps or until you forget a pairing. We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side; for advertising data, Google is the controller and you can exercise your rights with Google, and change your consent choices in the app. Where EU law applies, ads are served on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL). Questions: contact@quentinvedrenne.com.
Couchdesk is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new date.
